Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have some information about the New Year's Day swim? See the link on the left. You do not need to register with us, just turn up. Children must be accompanied by an adult who will be swimming with them.
What do I wear to swim in the sea? Nearly all club members wear normal swimming costumes/ trunks. A small minority wear wetsuits. We can not advise on wetsuits and suggest you visit a wetsuit/ surfing retailler if you are interested in this.
How long do you spend in the water? This varies depending on the temperature of the sea, from a few minutes in winter to half an hour or longer in the summer.
Where is the club located? We are on the prom at Whitley Bay. Click on the Directions page for details.
Can children join? Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult who will also be swimming. We do not provide lessons or supervison for children.
Can I train for long distance events with you? We are not a long distance/ triathlete club. If you wish to use our changing facilities you need to become a member (£30pa). Please be aware that we do not provide support staff/boats or lookouts. The club can not be held responsible if you get in to difficulties at sea and have chosen not to arrange your own support before swimming.
Do you swim all year round? Yes we do.
Can I practice for the Great North Swim with you? We are not a training club for this type of swim.
