Sea swimming has been a popular pastime for many generations of local residents. The foundation of the Club is unknown but it was named after a ship that was wrecked nearby, in the 1930s.

The current club house was built in the early 1950s although it has undergone several facelifts over the years. External repainting and shutter refurbishment occured during the 2008 summer. There are two sets of male and female changing rooms and a lounge area. The shutters are necessary to protect against the worst of the North Sea's storms.
